The Ambelakia Cultural Heritage Center (A.C.H.C.) has been set up after the 15/1997 decision of the board of directors of the Cultural Association of Ambelakia and it is now based on the old cotton mill, legacy of the great benefactor of Ambelakia Alevizos Asterios, who was born in 1833 and died in 1896 in Ambelakia. The old building of the cotton mill allotted after the 18/1996 and the 12/1999 decisions by the board of administration of the legacy of Alevizos Asterios .
A visitor to the A.C.H.C. can see: |
- On the ground floor of the building there is an exhibition of historically important farm implements, which record the way of living of the villagers. There are the materials they used for dying, blankets, and textiles woven in the factory. There is also an exhibition of photographs by Takis Tloupas, showing the architectural heritage of Ambelakia. There is a copy of the chart of Regas Ferraios (Velenstinlis), scale 1:1, 2,20 x 2,20m. In the center of the ground floor the visitor can see copies of frescos of St.Sophia, Bosporus, Constantinople with the top-kapi and Leandros' tower. There is a fresco from the Mansion of G.Schwartz, of Galatas Bridge (from the Mansion of Efthimiadis), of the historical center and summer palace of Vienna from the Mansion of Dim Schwartz, which was painted by Theodore G. Tsilikis.
- On the first floor there is an office and the library of the Cultural Association of Ambelakia with its file and the file of the Legacy of Alevizos Asterios, as well as a great part of the bibliography about Ambelakia, which is being continually enlarged. The ceiling is traditionally decorated by the Th. Tsilikis, whereas on the eastern part of the floor there are covered frescos on all the walls, which are still being recovered and cleaned. In future, this space is going to be used as a Center of Natural Dyes and for virtual Reality presentation.
- On the second floor, there is an exhibition of looms and other tools of weaving, which have been found there and were used for the weaving of blankets, sheets, alatzas, printed stuff. The textiles woven were of such a good quality that the factory was awarded by the Organizing Committee of the International Fair of Thessalonica in 1932, the year when the textiles were exhibited there. On this floor, the visitors can also see a permanent exhibition of paintings and photographs by local artists-creators, and various other exhibitions, too.
